Rachel Kuhn

In October 2014 I wrote the following blog post on my dear friend Rachel Kuhn which inspired the column Beyond the Podium:

A Bikram Yoga Teacher Takes a Hike to Raise Hunger Awareness

I first met Rachel at Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in Fall 2011. We didn’t hang within the same group of people and didn’t have much interaction within the 9-week period. Honestly, during teacher training you’re […]    Read More

With the support of her friend Noah Anast, who helped her co-create what is now the Feed the World Yoga Tour after her initial fundraising during the hike did not meet her goals, Rachel is reaching out to the yoga community to help feed children in need for an entire year.  Seem too good to be true?  Read on to hear about this year’s tour!

What began as a 500 mile walk across Spain, El Camino de Santiago de Compostela, is now a global tour to end hunger. We walk. We yoga. We unite communities from around the world to feed their spirit and feed the children.

In direct partnership with the non-profit organization Feed My Starving Children that provides meals to children in nearly 70 countries around the world, Feed The World Yoga Tour raised nearly $8,000 in it’s inaugural tour, feeding 92 children for one year.

And now we begin again…this time in Lisbon, Portugal.

Yoga instructors Gina and Rachel will walk El Camino Portugues, Lisbon, Portugal to Santiago de Compostela, Spain, ending in Muxia, Spain, spanning 400 miles. For every mile walked, one child no longer goes hungry for a year. 400 miles walked. 400 children nourished for a year. $32,000 in contributions, feeding 4 villages for a year!

But wait, we’re just getting limbered up!

The global yogi community will take the torch from there, hosting a series of karma yoga, transformational events, where we get to feed our spirit and feed the children…ending hunger for 600 MORE children for a year! In total, that’s $80,300 in contributions, feeding 10 villages, 1,000 children, for a year! Miraculous and completely possible.

We invite you to make the journey with us…go beyond your edge and walk, yoga, serve, contribute, however YOUR pilgrimage looks for you and feed your spirit! And together, we feed the children. The future forever altered. One, loved, nourished world.

The mission statement for the Feed the World Yoga Tour reads as follows:

To empower and enable yoga practitioners to live their yoga practice beyond their mat and make a global, lasting impact. To breathe new life into the yoga community’s capacity to make a profound and ever-giving difference on a global scale. United and fortified as a community of yogis, in service of communities in need around the world and in our own backyards. Daring to go beyond our edge, feeding spirits, feeding children, the future forever altered. One loved, nourished world.
